The Art of Living --------- A Ten Part Series by a Modern Day Yogi --------- Part 6: Wisdom
The Art of Living – a ten part series by a modern day yogi –
Part 6: Wisdom
A grandmother is considered wise because she may have sat by
our side and helped teach us right from wrong. Think about the people in your
life you appreciate because you believe they embody the quality of wisdom.
The wise come into knowledge through experience. Once we
discern the essential elements of life wisdom manifests. It may not take as
long for some to grow in their wisdom. In fact, the more challenges you face
the more lessons learned. Lessons that teach us to be more mindful about our
choices.
There is a concept of right and wrong. These are the labels
that your choices merit after you have conceived and acted upon your thoughts.
So, at some level wisdom grows from the seeds of our collective thoughts that
were acted upon to net a particular result and when we reflect on our choices
we label them good or right, bad or wrong.
Living a life full of choices that require constant discernment
for right and wrong is exhausting at first. Because the mind constantly comes
up with new ideas. Presenting you with so many options for actions. Either in
response to an imminent situation or threat to your personal safety. Or just in
the selection of the new pair of shoes. In other words we are never void of the
churning of the mind.
After a time with consistent practices that help us learn to
moderate our thoughts we find that discernment is less exhausting and the
quality of our lives begin to change as a result of more “right actions”.
In a life lived without regrets and with forgiveness for the
things we did out of ignorance, wisdom was the secret sauce that a grandmother
(or someone special in your life) used to show you the way forward.
