Times of seasonal change are good opportunities to slow down, reflect and renew the mind, body and spirit. These special times occur four times per year. And depending upon where you live, you may see and feel the evidence of the seasons as they change. You many have developed certain rituals that you perform at these times of the year.

Some rituals are around food, others are related to the home environment, or perhaps these are times for some activities out in nature. If you have developed a seasonal change ritual it is something you would plan and ensure that it happens until completion. If your ritual is during the Fall, and related to food, perhaps it involves canning your favorite foods for consumption during Winter. If the ritual happens at the end of Winter it could be time for Spring cleaning to refresh the home or garden.

As nature changes the same can be said about our bodies and minds. We are constantly going through changes. And each person has habits or rituals that are performed daily. We follow our habit patterns closely and rarely deviate from them once they are established.

Out yoga practice may experience seasonal changes too. There are times during the year when you want or need to change your yoga routine. Sometimes you want a faster paced practice and other times you need something that is more calm. At a time when things are moving fast and you may be experiencing more stress, could be the best time to slow down, and turn inward, with a calm yoga practice.

I call the series of calmer season practices, between Fall and Winter, Serenity yoga. The movements although slower benefit the entire body and reduce stress. Consider trying a Kanjin Serenity yoga class or our Serenity yoga retreat.

Namaste,
D
